Running a business means keeping on top of a lot of rules, forms and deadlines. So we have gathered the most useful links for Redbridge businesses in one place. Some are local, while others are national services that every UK business needs to know about.

If you cannot find what you need here, just get in touch. Our members and Leadership Team can often point you in the right direction.

Local support in Redbridge

Starting and running a company

  • GOV.UK: set up a business. This explains how to choose a business structure and register with HMRC.
  • Companies House. Directors and people with significant control must now verify their identity with Companies House. If you are an existing director, you need to do this before your company’s next confirmation statement.
  • ICO data protection fee. Most businesses that handle personal data need to pay this fee. For example, that includes customer details or CCTV footage.

Employing people

  • Right to work checks. You must check that every new employee has the right to work in the UK before they start. Otherwise, you could face a heavy fine.
  • Acas. Acas gives free, impartial advice on contracts, pay, holidays and workplace disputes.

Property and premises

Many of our members own or rent their premises, and some also let property. As a result, two property tasks come up again and again.

  • Energy Performance Certificates. Most rented homes and commercial premises must meet a minimum energy rating before they can be let. You can check any property’s current rating and expiry date for free with EPC Rating Check.
  • Identity checks for HM Land Registry. Sometimes you apply to HM Land Registry without a solicitor or conveyancer. For example, you might be transferring a property into your company or removing a paid-off mortgage. In that case, your identity must usually be verified on form ID1 (for individuals) or ID2 (for companies). ID1Verify offers these checks by video appointment.

Links are useful, but people are often better. At our events, you can ask other local business owners how they solved the same problem. Our membership page explains what each membership level includes.
