TFL | Weekend Travel updates, 5.3.20

Here is our weekly travel update to help you get around London this weekend, 7 and 8 March, and the following week.

The Tube will be open this weekend, and only three services have closures.

Most of the network will be open with services running as normal so you’ll be able to get wherever you need to go, but please check if any of the following affect you.

You can plan your journey using Journey Planner and our travel tools. Find out more about paying for your travel  on our website.

London Overground
Network Rail is carrying out work which will affect the following London Overground services.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, there will be no service between Romford and Upminster. Use local bus routes 165, 248 or 370.

On Sunday 8 March, there will be no service between South Tottenham and Barking until 12:00. Use alternative Tube routes between Seven Sisters and Walthamstow Central, and also between East Ham and Barking. Use local buses between South Tottenham and Walthamstow Queens Road. Rail replacement buses will run between Walthamstow Central and Barking.

From Monday 9 until Thursday 12 March, there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Chingford after 22:30 each evening. Use alternative Tube and local bus routes. Rail replacement buses will run between Liverpool Street and Chingford.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, westbound trains will not stop at Blackwall station. Use East India station, which is a short walk from Blackwall, or use local bus route D3. Alternatively, change at Poplar and take the train back to Blackwall, where you can exit at the eastbound platform.

Emirates Air Line
Until Wednesday 11 March, Emirates Air Line will be closed for annual maintenance.

TfL Rail
On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March, there will be no service between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. This is due to track work, overhead line enhancement and Crossrail station works. Tickets will be accepted on local bus route 25 between Stratford and Ilford. Rail replacement buses will run between Stratford and Romford, and also between Newbury Park and Shenfield.

Buses and roads
Bus and road users may be affected by the following changes this weekend. We expect to run a good service, but buses may be delayed, diverted or stop short of their normal destination.

Westminster – On Saturday 7 March, a group will gather in Duke Street at 12:30. At 13:15, they will march to Trafalgar Square via Oxford Street, Regent Street, Coventry Street, Haymarket and Pall Mall East. A rally will then be held until 17:00. Delays are expected.

Twickenham Rugby Stadium – From 14:45 until 20:45 on Saturday 8 March, Twickenham Rugby Stadium will be hosting the Six Nations rugby match between England and Wales, with kick off at 16:45. Large crowds and increased traffic levels are expected before and after the game. Roads likely to be affected are the A316 Chertsey Road, and all roads leading to Twickenham Stadium and around the stadium. London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will be closed before and after the game to help with crowd control. Diversions will be implemented in the Twickenham area.

Greenwich – From 22:00 on Saturday 7 March until 09:00 the following morning, there will be phased, incremental road closures in the Greenwich area while engineering equipment is transported from North Greenwich to Norman Road. There will be phased road closures along Millennium Way, Blackwall Lane (across the Blackwall Tunnel approach), Trafalgar Road, Romney Road, Nelson Road, Greenwich High Road and Norman Road.

A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach will be closed in both directions at the junction with Blackwall Lane from midnight until 01:00. Connecting side streets will also be closed or restricted to assist the movements where appropriate.

Westminster – From 13:30 on Sunday 8 March, a group will gather at Whitehall Place. At 13:45, they will march to Parliament Square via Whitehall, where the group will hold a rally. Delays are expected.

Victoria Street – From 12:00 until 14:00 on Sunday 9 March, Victoria Street will be closed in both directions at the junction of Artillery Road and Broad Sanctuary. This is due to a ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Check whether your bus is affected.
