Here is your weekly commercial drivers travel update, which sets out changes and events that could affect your planned operations.
From 6 August until mid-September 2018, there will be no access to Victoria Embankment for westbound vehicles beyond Southwark Bridge. This is to allow Cadent Gas to undertake investigatory works on a gas main. Delays are expected. If your journey would normally use Embankment for destinations beyond the Westminster Bridge, you will need to use an alternative route such as the Inner Ring Road north towards Euston Road or south towards Vauxhall Bridge. If you do not need access to central London, using routes such as the A406 North Circular, the A205 South Circular or the M25 could mean a quicker journey.
On Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July, South Carriage Drive and West Carriage Drive will be closed from 11:00 each day. Between 21:00 and 23:45, Park Lane will be closed between Marble Arch and Hyde Park Corner, as will the eastbound up-slip from Knightsbridge to Hyde Park Corner. This is due to an event.
On Friday 13 July, there will be road closures along Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, Cockspur Street, Pall Mall East, Whitehall and their approaches. This is due to a march taking place from Portland Place, to either Parliament Square or Trafalgar Square.
From 12:00 on Saturday 14 July, there will be road closures from Nine Elms to Whitehall via Vauxhall Gyratory, Albert Embankment. This includes Lambeth Palace Road, Westminster Bridge, Victoria Embankment and Horse Guards Avenue. From 13:00, there will be road closures from Old Palace Yard to Whitehall via Milbank and Parliament Square. This is due to marches.
Twickenham Rugby Stadium
From 14:00 until 23:59 on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July, traffic levels are expected to increase in the area around Twickenham Rugby Stadium. Roads likely to be affected are the A316 Chertsey Road and all roads leading to Twickenham Station and around the stadium. London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road will be closed before and after the concert to assist with crowd movements and diversions will be implemented in the Twickenham area. This is due to an event.
From 05:30 until 18:00 on Sunday 15 July, there will be road closures around Victoria Street, Aldwych, Regent Street and Piccadilly. From 05:30, Piccadilly will be closed in both directions between Hyde Park Corner and Piccadilly Circus. From 06:00, Whitehall will be closed between Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square. All remaining closures will be implemented at 07:00 and will be removed by 18:00. This is due to an annual event.
Charlie Brown’s Roundabout
From 21:00 until 05:00 every weekday until Monday 23 July, works will take place to improve the roundabout to minimise traffic disruption. From 21:00 until 05:00 every day until Thursday 12 July, the A406 will have lane closures clockwise/eastbound and the Southend Road off-slip will be closed between the junction and Lechmere Avenue. Chigwell Road (north) will be access only between Broadmead Road and Raven Road junctions with no access to the A1400. There will be no access to or from Latchett Road and Maybank Road from the A1400 Southend Road. Alternative diversion routes will be sign-posted on the site.
LoCITY is hosting a second series of half-day roadshows, to help commercial vehicle operators explore a wide range of established and emerging ultra-low emission technology. The first of four free-of-charge events will focus on urban distribution HGVs. You’ll hear from fellow operators already trialling alternative fuelled delivery vehicles across their fleets, as well as experts on clean refrigeration, telematics, eco-driving and routing technology. And if you want to explore the vehicles themselves, there will be a wide range on display aimed at the urban distribution sector. It is free to attend, but you must register in advance.
